Do Accelerated Degrees Save Money on College Tuition?

The advent of accelerated degrees allows the brightest or hardest working students to complete a course faster than a standard degree. It takes a lot of work and determination to get through these accelerated course, and they certainly aren’t for the faint of heart. But do they save on college tuition?

The offer several advantages to the student. They allow them to complete their course in half the time it would normally take. That means they can enter the workforce faster than their peers. It also means they don’t have to spend so long away from home.

There are also downsides though. Students have to work much harder to complete a course. There is the same amount of learning to do, in half the time. That means the leisure side of college life will be non-existent fort the accelerated student.

The question of college tuition fees for accelerated courses comes up a lot. It’s understandable to think if you’re spending less time at school, the fees would be less. Unfortunately in most cases, they aren’t. You’re still doing the same amount of learning, earning the same number of credits, and attending the same number of classes as you would in a standard course. That means college tuition fees are often the same, or even more than a standard length course.

Associated degree programs can be completed within a year if you can apply yourself to study. The fees are roughly the same as a standard course as these kinds of programs tend to charge by the class, and as you’ll be doing the same number of classes, the cost will be the same. The main saving, if any will be on accommodation, insurance and living costs.

Bachelor’s degree programs usually take four years. An accelerated program can be completed in three. Again, college tuition is roughly the same cost as you would be attending the same amount of lectures. However, for some courses, you would be expected to attend summer and winter semesters to complete the required number of credits. That’s an extra expense.

So, for an accelerated bachelor’s degree, it may even cost you more than a standard course. But, you will spend less on accommodation, food, and other living costs, and get into the workforce faster. Although at the moment, that isn’t necessarily a good thing.

The main accomplishment in an accelerated course is the impression it gives employers, or other colleges if you want to study further. Completing such a course shows determination, intelligence and a desire to succeed. This will be regarded very favorably by future peers when they are selecting you for a work or another course.

College tuition is expensive, sometimes even more so with an accelerated course. With this in mind, it’s no use doing such a course for financial gain, as there often is none. As we have seen, if you’re planning to do an accelerated bachelor’s degree, it may even cost more.
